Hermes 2O12-2O13 EHS REPORT - page 16

ENVIRONMENT HEALTH SAFETY
15
Being informed that the volume of suspended solids (SS) in effluent was slightly higher
than the park control standard in January 2013, the head of the EHS immediately asked
the facility and manufacturing managers to draw up the following improvement plant:
1. Process adjustment:
Recycle the cooling water inside machine for reuse.
2. Increase of treatment facilities:
Design and install a MLSS sedimentation tank and
compressions as shown below:
I. Level I: Installation of the MLSS sedimentation tank where liquid at the upper level
is directly drained to the waste water treatment plant. Effluent quality analysis:291mg/L.
Liquid at the lower level is drained into the MLSS pocket compressor.
II. Level II: An MLSS pocket compressor is added at the end of the MLSS
sedimentation tank to reduce MLSS concentration and liquid content in effluent.
Effluent quality analysis: 80.4mg/L, suggesting that overall effluent quality has
been improved significantly.
After process adjustment and further treatment, the effluent quality analysis shows
that the MLSS has been reduced significantly. As effluent quality has been improved
remarkably, no anomaly has since been reported.
